Embody Accessories was birthed from the deep-seated need for a creative outlet by an artistic soul who followed the ‘sensible’ path for eons. With Evlyn’s professional experience in the manufacturing and construction space, Embody’s evolution into manipulating and casting metal into structural quirky forms was an inevitable occurrence. Embody is influenced by so much in West / East African and European cultures, Architecture, more specifically Interior Design, Art Deco, Lines and Shapes.
Evelyn also draws her inspiration from Traditional African art and design, be it hairstyles such as cornrows or afros; fabrics such as the Kuba and Kente cloth. These all have shapes as a base of the design. Evlyn’s creations embody her preferred style. “I wear my creations because they are – simple, fun but with a quirky twist.” This quirkiness is evident in Embody’s designs where opposing and unexpected shapes meet with movement and texture. The usual somehow merges with the unusual. People who enjoy their individuality mixed with a quirky and fun twist to their simple elegant style wear Embody Accessories.
Ivy Barber was birth out of the need to have more exciting footwear within the creative director’s own personal shoe collection. As an avid wearer of flats herself, especially, sandals she found it sometimes frustrating to go shopping for shoes in Lagos due to the lack of variety in colour and styles. She found that there were mostly black or brown sandals and only particular styles on offer which she found did not flatter her own feet very much. The brand is named after her mother who is originally from Equatorial Guinea.
“My footwear is designed with the wearer firmly at the forefront of my mind”.
At Ivy Barber, we aim to create refreshing and eclectic designs, targeted at individuals who are very intentional and like to control their own narratives.
